Hi, As I finish up my meditation for this am I am thinking of the Breathe and how critical it is for us and how much we take it for granted. It only takes a moment to breath and appreciate what it does for your body. We all know that without it we are not going to make it in this world so maybe it is time to take a moment to appreciate the breath. Why are we so blind to the power of the breath? Because, just like the earth rotating around the sun, we don't have to think about our breath in order to continue to live on this plane! So what would happen if we took this moment and I took four breathes in and out. Just slowly, thinking about each breath. There is a big connection between the breath and your body. When you slow down and focus on your breath, your body slows down as well, your heart rate decreases and you feel a sense of calm. This is a great way to take a break each day and slow down!! Have a great, peaceful day today and don't forget to breath! Peace and Much Love, Leslie |

Hi, It has been way too long since I last wrote. I don't have the greatest excuse except for lazyness??? I have been struggling trying to figure out where the heck I am going and what I am doing with my life. I am guessing that this is common amongst us humans!! My big questions are due to the fact that I have been off of work and then let go of work because of my disability (stage 4 cancer) and have gone from a very crazy job to nothing and that is really hard to adjust. Let me just say I am enjoying my new found freedom from the constant crazyness but I have yet to find exactly what I am supposed to be doing! It is amazing to me that you can still make yourself stressed because of doing no work and that is exactly what I am doing!! I am trying a new treatment and it is a bit stressful for me as it is doing something I thought I would never do. Lets just say it is a plant therapy and it can "cure" my cancer. However, I have to deal with my own mental issues with this therapy. It is simple and easy to take unlike the mistletoe that has to be injected. I am working on it one day at a time!! I look back at the last year and a half and see how far I have come and the huge changes I have made to my life and I am a bit shocked and proud and excited about what comes next. It is by looking back sometimes that we see what has occurred and how much we have actually moved forward! I will continue to the plant therapy and I will go into remission because I will. I know I am well. My mantra is I am healthy, vital and strong and I believe this 100% and will continue to believe this because I believe my body can and will heal itself if I remain positive and forward looking. I continue to look at what I am going to do next and what that will lead to and I am excited and eager with anticipation of what comes next! There is so much I have not done yet and I believe that God has a plan for me because I wouldn't be going through these struggles without something really cool coming next!! Today I want you to look back at this last year and see what you have to be proud of and what you can be grateful for. You have come really far and should be congratulated on your success! If this last year doesn't look so bright...now you can change that!! Either way you have the choice to change! Make it happen! Happy Halloween! Enjoy this beautiful day! Peace and much love, Leslie Hi,
Well it is time to get back in the swing. Hope you have all got back in the swing with school beginning and the weather getting cooler!! Speaking of school, I got the wonderful opportunity to start taking a class at the UW and I am sooooo excited about it!!! I was really nervous as I hadn't taken a class for 22 years but it is pretty much the same as it was the kids are just younger! I am learning sooooo much it is scary but I am exhilarated with life and enjoying every moment. And isn't that what we are supposed to be doing!! I have learned a lot this summer and one of the biggest things is not to worry so much but to enjoy way more!! Going to Colorado helped me see that there is so much to see on this planet and in this country! I will continue to explore this country going forward! Just wanted to touch base and just write. Will be gearing up to talk to some high school nutrition classes about the importance of eating well and what can go wrong when you don't!! Hope to entertain enough to get them super excited to get out there and eat some spirulina or broccoli! :) Happy Fall and enjoy the beauty that is Wisconsin as the leaves change and the air gets fresh and nippy!! LOVE IT!!! Peace and lots of love, Leslie Hi,
I just dropped my son off at school and am excited for my daughter to start school again! Then it will be back to normal?! It has been an awesome summer with lots of traveling and enjoying life with family and friends! I do look forward to getting back to writing more blogs as I have been lax of late. Coming soon....Bowel movements-why are they so important, Green Tea-whats all the hubbub?, Essiac Tea-whats it good for? and many more exciting things coming up!! Yeah Summer, but looking forward to the beauty of fall!! Peace and lots of love, Leslie Hi,
When life gives you lemons, make lemonade! We have all heard this saying before but what does that really mean? In my case it meant when I got a diagnosis I didn't want I was supposed to make lemonade? Truth be told I don't look at my diagnosis as a bad thing right now I look at it as an awakening of my soul. I have released so many things that I was hanging onto that were bad for me. I have learned more then I have in years and I feel better then I have in years because I finally started to take care of my body the way I was supposed to and I am doing what I have always wanted to do. One of those things I always wanted to do is to go white-water rafting with my family. With some trepidation on my son and husbands part we set off on a wild and exciting adventure to Colorado and the wanderlust adventures white-water rafting! It was a glorious day with clear blue skies and beautiful mountains surrounding us as we set sail down the La Poudre river. I am in the bright blue on the right side of the boat as you look at the picture. I am in my element which is water! I love water and always have! It makes me happy and I love to be near the rushing water sound as it always calms me down! Needless to say this trip was the best medicine I could have ever taken and it made me appreciate me, my family and the beautiful country that God has created for our pleasure!! Between the mountains, beautiful blue skies and the rushing white-water I was in heaven!!! So that is my lemonade! For every lemon I am served I shall make another one of my dreams come true and feel better and better in the process! So long for now...and happy rafting! Peace and much love, Leslie Hi, In addition to Spirulina, there is Kale! This particular plant has amazing properties aside from having 11 grams of protein in every 100 calories!! It is a great antioxidant and yummy to eat. You may have heard a lot about this vegetable as it is getting a lot of press as the next spinach and better than spinach! From the worlds healthiest foods website, some fun facts about Kale:
The other way to use Kale is in your fresh juice with your juicer!! My fav is with carrots and a granny smith apple!! yummy!! I love Kale for all its health benefits but once you start eating kale in your smoothies, juices and salads you will see that it is a fantastic food and has soooo many health benefits!!
Have a chipperific day (you can get kale chips too!), Leslie Hi, Back in May I posted about antioxidants but I wanted to revisit them today as they are super important. One of the most powerful antioxidants is Spirulina. I love this explanation of spirulina: "Imagine a plant that can nourish your body by providing most of the protein you need to live, help prevent the annoying sniffling and sneezing of allergies, reinforce your immune system, help you control high blood pressure and cholesterol, and help protect you from cancer. Does such a "super food" exist? Yes. It's called spirulina. Unlike plants you may grow in your garden, this "miracle" plant is a form of blue-green algae that springs from warm, fresh water bodies." (Mercola.com More on spirulina) I don't know about you but I so want some of that!! It truly is a super food. It seems like a no brainer to just take this each day. There is one caveat...it has a very "interesting" taste. There is a solution to this problem. You can enjoy this wonderful superfood in a "Green Dream" smoothie from Willy Street Coop (very yummy!) or you can make your own smoothie at home using mango and pineapple or strawberries and bananas. One more way...get some green goodness from bolthouse and add your powder in the juice. Mischief managed (in the words of Harry Potter). I do want to know how you feel after you eat some of this awesome superfood as it gives you a bit of a jolt of energy... Wahoo!!! Peace and Lots of Love, Leslie PS: I am reposting the video to explain the antioxidants! It is an awesome video..enjoy Hi,
I was walking in the beautiful northwoods and actually listening to a cd about going with the stream. They had a very interesting analogy that I took to be quite literal as I sometimes do. They were talking about going white water rafting and how you have to go downstream because you truly have no choice and that it is not Disney so they can't stop the river when you want to get off. There is no way you can paddle upstream because the river is way too powerful. Then I started thinking about my life and how when I try to paddle upstream (which I do a lot) it doesn't ever seem to work because I am not going with the flow of the stream. And then I thought of the flow of life (you see where this is going...) and how when we fight against the "stream" of life it is very difficult and we literally are trying to paddle upstream without a paddle. When we go with the flow of life we quite literally do not need a paddle as we are flowing downstream and you can go pretty darn fast downstream. So, what am I getting at you ask. Well, how is your stream flowing? Are you hanging on to the paddle and trying to paddle upstream or are you going with the flow of life? Going with the flow...what does that mean? It means letting go of the paddles and allowing life to happen the way it was and is intended to happen in your life. For me, I get the visual of when I went white water rafting and the water was really low so the guide let me jump in the water with my life preserver on (I was a good swimmer) and "float" down river. The water was rushing quite fast and it was the most exhilarating "float" down the river and the sun was shining and I was hooting and a hollering! I was completely flowing downstream with life as it was supposed to be and loving every minute of it!!! This is the feeling I want to feel when life is going the way it is supposed to go! We shouldn't have to keep paddling upstream and getting nowhere. What I want you to do, if you are struggling, is stop what you are doing (if it is not in the middle of running a marathon or something) and think about whether you are flowing downstream with the wonderful current of life or if you have your paddle and are struggling to get upstream where you know you can't get and where there is nothing for you! If you are paddling upstream, take a moment to think about what it is you are trying to accomplish. Is it something you really want to do or is it something that somebody said you should be doing (other than work bosses)? Whatever the answer is remember you have one life to live the life YOU want and if it is something you don't want to be doing just think about what it is that you want to be doing and gently guide yourself to your life's passion...whatever that is!! (I know some people are doing work they don't want to do and you don't have to change today but I just want to plant that seed...:)) The reason I am talking about this is because I know that I was not doing what I was supposed to be doing and I got hit over the head with a dis-ease and have been blessedly forced into doing what I want to do. That doesn't mean I know exactly what it is but I am trying each day to allow my day to unfold the way it is supposed to by following my intuition and inspirations that come to me. Whew...a long winded one today! Have a truly awesome day, Leslie Hi, When you first start changing the way you eat it can be uncomfortable. What exactly do you do? Like the new PBJ, I created what I call a "shake and bake" salad. Because, let's face it, sometimes salads can be very boring and totally lose your interest after day two. So to mix it up I add a few different things. Here is my base coming from the place that I am at:
Now you are ready for at least three yummy salads with lots of variety!! I have included a picture of the sprouts I get from Willy street and the Dressing from Whole Foods. All the rest you make up on one day and roll with for the week.... Eat well and Enjoy!! Peace and Lots of Love, Leslie |
